When the Dream Ate its Own Head
Dangling blossom
Dreams the hand made whore,
Covered in lace,
Hiding the stench,
Bitter perfume,
A lifetime of scars,
Slowly they came,
They stole,
She withered,
Wilted,
Yet would not die.
For sale,
Every inch and ounce,
Secret deal,
Mounting rot decay,
Seeping lonely through,
Cracks in basement dwelling,
Dark and swollen,
The whore walks quickly, Clicking loudly,
Ever clicking almost stomping,
Above our heads,
Like thunder follows,
Where we may hide.
She’ll soon be gone,
Like bricks and mortar,
When war is finished.
Vanish beneath our feet.
We clung,
We fought,
She sold,
They bought.
We yelled,
Until the sound,
Fell Silently,
Fertilizing the new earth.
Hold it deep within,
She worked,
Rabid violent,
Sucking marrow,
Leaving empty hollow,
Automatons in her wake.
Soon became,
No single doubt,
Our time it seemed,
Had come and gone.
She’d sealed our fate,
With pen strokes thick,
Ink stained each page,
Blotting every word we knew,
Our future grew,
Laden by her,
Befuddled ignorance.
